I have enjoyed photographing this family ever since the birth of their first child. We had a great time taking family photos at the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh.
The NCMA, the North Carolina Museum of Art, is an amazing place to take photos. We all colloquially call it the “Art Museum”, but it’s more than that. It’s an actual campus of sorts with trails and gardens that make it a perfect backdrop for any kind of photo session. I’ve done family photos, engagements, bridals and pet portraits all at this location. It’s one of my favorites in the Raleigh area and it’s lovely year round. It makes a perfect spot for photos because it offers such a variety of options in terms of look. One can opt for a more urban/museum oriented session that focuses on architecture and the reflecting pools. Or, one could choose the wooded walking trails and open fields for a more natural setting.
Having 2 kids under 3 for a photo session is always a good time! You never know quite what to expect and they are usually more into having a good time and running around than taking photos. (As they should be!) I love photographing this age because their little personalities really shine through. I know mom and dad were worn out by the end of this session, but I had a great time. I like to let the kids be themselves and just follow them around with my camera in a more natural feeling way. Eventually they warm up and I’m able to capture images that really represent who they are as individuals. We also snuck in some family portraits as well. 😉 We started off at the top of the greenway trail at the NCMA and covered most of the museum park by the end of the session. Here are my favorite images from the day.
